Khami Ruins

Ruinas de Khami
Khami Ruins (Matabeleland) – for those touring the southwest regions of the country (where the modern city of Bulawayo is located), you are likely to run into the ruined city of Khami. It was once the capital of the Kingdom of Butua of the 15th century Torwa dynasty. It is located 460 kilometers southwest of Harare. The discovery of objects from Europe and China (Ming porcelain pieces from the reign of Wan-Li (1573-1691)) shows that Khami was a major center for trade over a long period of time. It is one of the few Zimbabwe sites that were not destroyed by treasure hunters and its undisturbed stratigraphy is scientifically important in providing a much clearer insight into the history of the country. Its ruins are now a national monument in Zimbabwe. Khami is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
